Trinamool's Mahua Moitra Drops Media Houses As Parties In Defamation Case

Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra on Tuesday sought to delete as parties several media houses from her petition before the Delhi High Court against circulation of alleged fake and defamatory content against her. Counsel for Ms Moitra, while stating that he was not pressing any interim relief in the matter at this stage, told Justice Sachin Datta that the lawsuit would only continue against two defendants -- BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai.  Mr Dubey has accused Ms Moitra of taking bribe from a businessman to ask questions in Parliament and urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to constitute an inquiry committee to look into the charges against her.  Citing a letter he received from advocate Mr Dehadrai, Mr Dubey has said the lawyer shared "irrefutable" evidence of bribes allegedly being given to the Trinamool leader by a businessman. Massive Protests In Assam After Landslide Hits Mega Power Project

Massive protests have erupted in Assam after a massive landslide hit an under-construction dam in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday, affecting a 2,000 megawatt (MW) hydroelectric project and reducing water flow in Assam's Subansiri river. "We have already seen the adverse effect of dams in Sikkim, how it breached and so many people died. Now this sudden reduction of water in Subansiri has made us worried, we don't sleep the entire night since we live beside the river," one of the protesting villagers, Deben Dutta, told NDTV. Another protesting villager Maya Nath said, "We are worried, suddenly there might be a huge rush of water, we are keeping a constant watch on the river, we are not sending children to school, we have kept boats prepared, we are in panic mode". Assam government employees cannot marry for the second time, if their spouse is alive, without the government's permission, even if they are allowed to by their personal law. Without mentioning any community, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Assam government employee would need the state government's permission for a second marriage even if their religion allowed bigamy. "Even if a religion allows you to have a second marriage, then also you have to seek state government's permission," the Chief Minister said, "We have seen cases where after the death of the employees, both wives fight for the husband's pension," he added.
