Google Accuses Microsoft's Of "Anti-Competitive" Cloud Practices

Alphabet's Google Cloud has accused Microsoft of anti-competitive cloud computing practices and criticised imminent deals with European cloud vendors, saying these do not solve broader concerns about its licensing terms. Google Cloud Vice President Amit Zavery urged EU antitrust regulators to take a closer look at the issue. Google Cloud's first public comments on Microsoft and its EU deals underscores the rivalry between the two U.S. tech giants in the multi-billion-dollar cloud computing business where Google trails market leader Amazon and second-ranked Microsoft. "Microsoft definitely has a very anti-competitive posture in cloud. They are leveraging a lot of their dominance in the on-premise business as well as Office 365 and Windows to tie Azure and the rest of cloud services and make it hard for customers to have a choice," Zavery told Reuters in an interview late on Wednesday. "When we talk to a lot of our customers, they find a lot of these bundling p

Russia Says Oil Sales To India Surged Over Twentyfold In 2022

Russian oil sales to India surged more than twentyfold last year as European buyers turned to other markets following the conflict in Ukraine, Russia's deputy prime minister said Tuesday. Russia shifted its oil exports to India and China last year as European Union nations sought to end their reliance on Russian energy supplies after Moscow sent troops into neighbouring Ukraine. The EU imposed an embargo on seaborne Russian oil in December alongside a price cap on Russia crude that was agreed with the Group of Seven industrialised powers. The shift has meant cheaper Russia energy imports for China and India. "Most of our energy resources were redirected to other markets, to the markets of friendly countries," Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said in comments carried by Russian news agencies. "If for example we take oil supplies to India, they increased 22 times last year," Novak said. Novak, who is in charge of Russia's energy sector, also noted t

Italy Invites US School After Principal Forced To Resign Over David Statue

The Italian museum which houses Michelangelo's David Sculpture has invited parents and board members of a US school to visit, after the principal was forced to resign following complaints that students were shown "pornographic" material.  The board of Tallahassee Classical School, Florida, pressured Principal Hope Carrasquilla to resign last week after an image of the iconic statue, which depicts an entirely naked biblical figure David, was shown to a sixth-grade class. Parents complained about the lesson saying that the 16th-century Renaissance masterpiece was "pornographic". Some even said that they wanted to know about the lesson before it was taught.  Now, even though the school has stated that the principal was not let go because of the lesson, Cecilie Hollberg, director of the Galleria dell'Accademia, where the David sculpture resides, invited the school board, parents and student body to view the "purity" of the statue. Chutneys lend an explosion of freshness, flavour and texture without which most dishes would feel incomplete. Can you imagine eating vada pav without any chutney? Well, you might eat it, but won't enjoy it. Similarly, don't many of us just love coconut chutney along with our idli and dosas? Sambhar alone is not always satisfying. And what about hari chutney? Many of our snacks and pakoras would seem rather tasteless without it.
